Join your colleagues in pediatric sports medicine to gain insight on new research in the field. PRiSM’s Annual Meeting is a unique experience where all professionals in pediatric sports are looking to work together in improving care and safety in pediatric sports. Our Annual Meeting will have well-rounded topic coverage in sports medicine including: surgery, rehabilitation, athletic training, non-surgical interventions, basic science, radiology, and practice efficiency. Annual Meeting Purpose
The PRiSM 4th Annual Meeting is designed to provide high-quality dissemination of information in the basic sciences, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and technological advances in the multi-disciplinary areas of sports medicine for children and adolescents.

Annual Meeting Objectives


Target Audience

The target audience for the PRiSM 4th Annual Meeting includes athletic trainers, physical therapists, mid-level providers, radiologists, sports medicine providers, orthopedic surgeons, orthotists, rehab engineers, kinesiologists, nutritionists, educators, administrators, researchers, and all others concerned with pediatric and adolescent sports medicine.

Program

The PRiSM 4th Annual Meeting is designed to provide high-quality dissemination of information in the basic sciences, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and technical advances in the multi-disciplinary areas of sports medicine for children and adolescents. The Scientific Program Committee has worked hard to provide a diverse, innovative and well-rounded program while incorporating feedback from last year’s meeting.

Plenary Speakers


John Anthony "Tony" Herring, MD

Dr. Herring will be delivering the keynote lecture on Friday, January 27. Dr. Herring currently serves as Chief of Staff Emeritus at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, where he served as chief of staff from 1978-2012. He is a professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Herring has served as chairman of the Pediatric Committee of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and president of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America. He also belongs to the Dallas County Medical Society, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, American Orthopaedic Association, and the International Pediatric Orthopaedic Think Tank. Dr. Herring is the winner of many prestigious awards. He has authored a book entitled Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and he is editor of the 3rd, 4th and 5th Editions of Tachdjian’s Pediatric Orthopaedics textbook

James R. Andrews, MD

Dr. Andrews will be delivering the keynote lecture on Saturday, January 28. He is one of the founding members of Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center in Birmingham, Alabama. He is also co-founder of the American Sports Medicine Institute (ASMI) a non-profit institute dedicated to injury prevention, education and research in orthopaedic and sports medicine. Dr. Andrews is Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Alabama Birmingham Medical School, the University of Virginia School of Medicine, University of South Carolina Medical School, Adjunct Professor at the University of South Alabama, and Clinical Professor of Orthopaedics at Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Andrews has authored numerous scientific articles and books, and recently published Any Given Monday, about prevention of youth sports injuries.

CME/CEU Credits

Credit Statement:
Amedco designates this live activity for a maximum of 15 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. 

Approval Statement:
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of the Amedco and Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society (PRISM). Amedco is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Physical Therapists:
An application has been submitted to the Texas Physical Therapy Association.   15 credits are pending.

Athletic Trainers:
An application has been submitted to the BOC.   15 credits are pending.

Location

The PRiSM 4th Annual Meeting will be held at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas, Texas. Dallas is the ninth largest city in the US, and third largest in Texas. The city is home to the largest continuous arts district in the country, as well as a wide variety of restaurants. Dallas's major airport, DFW, is larger than the island of Manhattan.
