About PRiSM

Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society — Advancing pediatric sports medicine through collaborative research and education.

2012 Year Founded 14 Annual Meetings Held 10+ Years of RIG Research

What is PRiSM?

PRiSM is a multidisciplinary professional society created in 2012 to improve interdisciplinary collaboration in pediatric and adolescent sports medicine. Our purpose is to be the worldwide leader in advancing this field through collaborative research and education — focused on the young athlete as a whole.

Why PRiSM?

Many pediatric sports injuries are unique to young athletes and occur less frequently than adult injuries, making high-quality research traditionally limited. PRiSM enables members to perform impactful research across multiple locations by extensive teams of interdisciplinary investigators.

Who We Are

PRiSM is a multidisciplinary organization whose membership spans a wide range of medical and allied health professions, all united by a commitment to the care of the young athlete:

Athletic Trainers Primary Care Sports Medicine Physicians Physical Therapists Orthopedic Surgeons Research Scientists Musculoskeletal Radiologists Sports Nutritionists Nurse Practitioners Sports Psychologists Physiatrists Kinesiologists Rehabilitation Engineers Special Educators Pediatricians Students & Trainees

Our Mission: Research & Education

PRiSM's research endeavors revolve around our Research Interest Groups (RIGs) — comprised of members from a variety of personal and professional backgrounds with a common interest in specific pediatric and adolescent sports-related conditions. Concussion, Motion Analysis, Meniscus, Female Athlete, and Sports Specialization are particularly popular RIGs, with many other topics of collaboration. Over the last decade, the RIGs have successfully published cutting-edge research across these many topics.

In addition to RIGs, PRiSM has developed a robust webinar series and Pediatric Sports Lab, a PRiSM podcast — both offering excellent educational content for members throughout the year.

The PRiSM Annual Meeting represents the pinnacle of our educational calendar. The program includes scientific sessions, Instructional Course Lectures, Research Abstract Poster sessions, Student/Trainee sessions, and exceptional Keynote and Exchange Speakers. The 14th Annual Meeting will be held in Orlando, Florida on January 28–30, 2027.

Our Members

Every PRiSM member is crucial to our mission and collective experience. Recognizing the wide and varied disciplines and experiences within our membership is essential to being an encompassing, effective, and impactful multi-specialty research society.

PRiSM is committed to creating a culture that encourages and values every individual — building both a membership and leadership that reflects the communities we represent, conduct research within, and care for. No matter your background, we want you engaged and involved to better promote the welfare of the children who are the ultimate goal and sole focus of why we do what we do.

Member volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, without whom our Research Interest Groups, Committees, Webinars, Podcast, and Annual Meetings could not exist.

Interested in getting more involved? Consider volunteering for one of the Research Interest Groups or a Committee — interest and enthusiasm are the only requirements. Reach out to the Board at [email protected].

History

The Founding Board of Directors came together in 2012 to identify a better way to collaborate among medical professionals specializing in pediatric and adolescent sports medicine. They concluded the best way to connect these multidisciplinary professionals was to create a non-profit professional society — and the Pediatric Research in Sports Medicine Society (PRiSM) was born. PRiSM was incorporated in 2013.
